Anyone else had any issues/problems w/ the rear calipers not compressing all the way??
My '05 seems to not be compessing fully, ...no air in system, does not hang/drag, releases fully but it is only compressing/closing enough that the brake pad is only touching part of the rotor, at first I saw that there was a thin coat of rust on the outside of the rotor, as seen through the rim and only 50% of it was shiny, indicating that the brake pad is only making contact w/ 1/2 of it, I changed the pads and rotor, inspected the caliper, it locks the wheel, not allowing it to spin when turning while on a lift, but I see the thin rust forming on the outside of the rt/rear rotor...possible internal bypass?
did that too, what are the chances the caliper is just internally bypassing, any one ever heard of this w/ the factory ford calipers? I am considering pricing out a caliper and installing to to see if that rectifies the problem, just wanted to see if there were others w/ similiar issues, funny thing is that there are no stopping concerns or problems, just the visible rust on the outside of the rotor, i will try to post some pics of what I am describing,
If you have already lubed the pins and the groves where the brake pads sit, and you used a wire brush to make sure that there was no rust (as mudguy33 suggested) then it is time to replace the caliper with a rebuilt one. Shouldn't cost over $100 if you can do it yourself. Be sure to bleed the brakes after you install the new caliper
