i took the 1/4" and trimmed them to where i could weld some brackets up... am useing 1/8"d by 1/2" long steel rivits for the extra strength. have put several coats of krylon primer on both pieces to delay the corrosion from the dissimmeler metals but my batteries ran dead w/ 1 and 1/2 mounting holes left to drill... hope to get it on in the a.m. and for it to last long enough for me to get back to work for a few weeks to get the new part w/o going totally broke in doing so...
Probably to late for you now but for future reference you can weld cast ally but you just need to be patient. Preheat the bracket then weld. TIG is best with MIG second. After you weld allow to cool naturally. Anyway I hope your reinforcing works and holds out for a while for you.
Aussie, i dont have access to a tig, and the wire setup i have is flux core only. what the local welding shop that does alum charges is more that what a new one would cost
Number, thats interresting to know... he said the list price was right around 90$ and his employee dicount came to 50$ish... appreciate the part number, i'll send it to him and see what kind of response i get about it then... He seems to be confused about the parts for this truck, something about they never deal with these old trucks in their delership ... plus when you tell either him or his part guy 6.9 they go ?Huh?...

Dealer netcost is usually 40% less than MSRP in most cases.
Taking that into account, with an MSRP of $90.00, dealer net will be $54.00.
Most dealers sell parts to employees at cost + 10%.
So...the price to the employee will be $59.40 + tax.
But you aren't buying this bracket for $59.40 + tax...at least not "legit" you aren't.
FOTZ2L252B = MSRP: $138.23 / Dealer net: $82.94.
These prices are direct from the Ford Dealer Parts Locator System, that every dealer in the US uses.
Part number sources: 1980/89 & 1990/2002 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalogs.
Ford O-S-I (Obsolete-Supercede-Interchange) Catalog used to update the part number from E7TZ2L252B to E9TZ2L252B toFOTZ2L252B
btw: The dealer locator system shows that: KARL KLEMENT FORD in Decatur TX has ONE and COVERT FORD in Austin TX has ONE.
If "Piney Woods" is in the Hill Country, then I suppose Austin will be the closest dealer.
i talked to one that told me the 150 said there was one in houston, seems he may have been looking at the wrong part as well... i sent the part num you gave to my buddy to see if i get a different response from him... havent heard anything from him yet

I scanned through the listings rather quickly (and...my eyes are 65 yrs old), so add three more dealers to who has FOTZ2L252B = .
TOMMIE VAUGHN MOTORS in Houston has ONE = 713-802-6667.
NORTH PARK L/M in San Antonio has ONE = 210-341-8841..
FIVE STAR FORD in Farmers Branch has TW0 = 972-242-5117.
Dunno where Farmers Branch is, but I do know where San Antonio is...just south of the Hill Country.
Been to S/A, stayed at the Menger Hotel, across the alley from you know what.
Everyone in TX knows, but how many know this? The Menger's bar is where TR recruited the Rough Riders.
