Has anyone one running an I6 every used the automatic transmission version of the Autolite 1bbl with a standard transmission? The one for the automatic has a second diaphram on the passenger's side of the carb as well as the one for the accellorator pump on the drivers side.
I'm having no luck with the one that came with my truck and would like to get her running again. There's not a lot of these carbs around anymore and when I find a listing it isn't always clear if it is for an automatic or manual tranny. If I got one and it was for an automatic (I've got the manual one) would it work? Could I just disconnect the linkage from the throttle rod?
If it matters/helps I've got a 66 I-6 240 in a 65 F-100.
Thanks for all opinions and especially for any experienced advise.
Vehicles with automatic transmissions like to stall if the throttle is "blipped" when the transmission is in gear. That extra diaphragm is a "dashpot", and prevents the throttle from closing too rapidly. I think it will work just find with a manual transmission without disconnecting the linkage, but that's always an option.
Thanks. I will order the "unknown" configuration with greater confidence. If the carb does come with the dashpot for the auto tranny, it opens the option to put a C4 or some other auto tranny in the truck later. My wife would like that a lot.
