ok here is the problem I am building a 66 f100 2wd
I also have a 79 f150 2wd donor I want to just swap the bodies will it work "mostly"
has anyone done this yet and had success? it looks good in theory
any help would be good thanks
I am nearing the end of the exact same swap. Swap the front end for disc brakes, power steering gear box and be done. I know that tank in the back is aweful tempting, but just pull your bed off, install the mustang tank in your existing frame and be done. There is a write up on how to do it floating around. The bed does not mount the way I had hoped and sits an inch or so two high in the rear. This swap has left a bad taste in my mouth. I will do the above mentioned upgrade next time instead of the frame off. You can still replace the rubber cab and core support bushings by raising the cab and front clip up a couple inches, then lower back down on the new bushings.
One last thing. Your wheels will sit back 3 inches too far in the wheel openings. Just an FYI, there are about 30 rivets to remove to reposition the axel 3 inches forward. The axel is also about 2+ inches wider so your wheel sits about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches from the side of the bed.
Nothing wrong with your current frame, just upgrade it. Save yourself all the extra cutting, welding, fitting issues and stay stock.
Another complication that will bite you later is titling issues.
And insurance for a '66 body - or is it a '79?
You DON'T want the DMV assuming you are trying to cover up a stolen truck.
I bought a '76 donor truck, and swapped over the disc brakes, power steering, drivetrain, electronic ignition, all sorts of goodies.
