Grinding in the front end?

Grinding in the front end?
Early 99 f350 4x4 that has started a grinding noise in front end. When I hit a bump it will start but go away after about a quarter mile or when I stop, and noise will not start back whenI take back off. Checked for movement on the hub bearings and they look good. But when I lock the hubs in the noise goes away also? But the passanger hub does not lock in when you turn it to locked. Could it be just the hub?

Grinding noises are bad.

My question is could this be what is causing the grinding? When I turn the hub to lock the axle does not turn with the wheel. Or could it still be the hub bearing as I just replace this side about 4 months ago.
