like it says I am in need of a little help and i figure this should be fairly universal I have a friend that has a 46 Chrysler that they had a new engine and the electrical system upgraded from 6v to 12v how there fuel gauge stops at half a tank i know the stock guage needs an adapter bo drop the sender voltage back to the 6v range but I am at aloss of what parts to get to build it.
Look on eBay. (Auto Parts). There are a number of guys selling 12v to 6v drop down voltage resistor units. Just make sure you match the amps to the resistor. (Like don't put a light bulb resistor on a heater fan!)
Maybe I misunderstood. But anyway, these Voltage drop resistors are designed for an individual circuit, such as one gauge or one light (or light group).
The TO-220 pkg. with a heatsink is way to light. Here are some pics on a light and medium 12 to 6 drop vehicle resistor.
These do throw off a little heat, when in use because the have to "waste" the voltage to somewhere. There is even a bigger one (which looks like a coil resistor) for heater fans.
(P.S. Notice the second is rated at 50 watts, which would do comfortably one headlight, or 4-5 small bulbs, or 3-4 gauges)
Try pumping 12v to the horn, it may sound a little different, but should work. At least I haven't blown my '47 horn yet!
