I just bought a 1987 F250 with a 460 in it. Every morning when I try to start it, it starts for about a second then dies. Sometimes I can get it up to 2-3k rpm and hold it there for a few seconds, but it still dies. 10 minutes later it will start and run fine. Sounds/smells like it's flooding.
You can adjust the electric choke part so it wont close as far.
The electric choke works on a "heating of the coil" type deal.
Cold, the coil has tention on it & pulls the choke flap closed once the gas pedal is pressed.
Once the engine is started or the key has been turned on, the coil is heated & tention is released slowly opening the choke flap.
Try, just as a test, turn the key switch on & let it sit for awhile before pressing the gas pedal or trying to start the engine & see if it changes anything.
When the key switch is turned on, 12V starts going to the electric choke heating the coil.
