Hey all, just had a couple quick questions. I've got a 1994 E150 with a 302 and the AODE (W) tranny. The transmission just went out and is looking quite expensive to fix, so I found a AODE out of a 94 or 95 Mustang with a 302 that only had 60k miles on it. First, what do you guys think, will this be a direct bolt in? The length looks good, but that's as far as I've gotten yet. Second, the converter that came with the Mustang tranny is stamped "GT" so would this possibly have a slightly higher stall? If so, any advantage to running it in the van? I don't try and drive it like a drag car, but it does occassionally pull an 18' car trailer.
Before you buy or install the unit, check the tail shaft housing and the spline count on the output shaft. The Mustangs are usually different than the trucks.
There are lots of other detail differences. The band servo is smaller on the mustang so the 1/2 shift may be slow/sloppy with the mustang transmission in the much heavier van.
The Mustang torque converter will have a higher stall speed. I doubt you will like it in the van. You should be able to buy a reman torque converter with the correct stall rpm for about $100.
