Hey guys I am in need of some advice again. Its been a rough day haha
I went out this morning, topped the truck off with fuel. Come home and decide to put some PB Blaster on the shock bolts, since I just ordered some last night. And then I smell gas. Look around and there is a small little puddle of it under my front fuel tank. I cant see where its coming from, and not to sure why its leaking, never happened before. Trucks a 94 F250 4WD Duel Tanks 5.8. My dillema is that I took a fall at work and got 25 stitches in my knee and 10 staples. Ive been wabbling around with this knee brace on for the last week now. If I have to pull the bed, I just don't think I will be able to do it cause I have to have the truck to go to school in 2 weeks. So has this happened to any body else? Any idea what this could be? Any and all ideas would be appreciated!!
Hey OldJunk I never get any notice about a recall on the selector switch. It def. only happens when its topped off, because I filled it up the other day but only half way or so, and it didn't leak then, so i don't think its a leaky filler kneck. I just got this feeling that I gotta take the bed off...
Check with your Ford dealer, it was a safety re-call so it should still be valid on the selector valve.........It was because the fuel from one tank would migrate to the other one and overfill it causing a BIG fire hazard.......Have a buddy who's not all sewn up crawl under and see whats happening.

No, full could indicate a leaky filler neck. The hoses rot and when the tank is full it splashes out.
Although if the above is true I would definitely look into that too.
Hey Frog I just went under the truck, the filler house is fine, not rotted, and the area around the filler kneck is dry, about 6-10 inches behind that, towards the back of the truck, is wet with gas, and its wet, which leads me to believe it is still leaking cause other wise the gas would evaporate... I wish I could just get a look at the top of the tank!
The rear tank on my truck leaked from the vent grommet, where the vent line attaches to the tank. I don't remember where it is located on the front tank, but mine would also leak only when the tank was full.

Gas vapors will keep the area wet for a long time, so yes there is some sort of hole/leak.
I need to look at what is right there. Vent. All the connections for the lines.
Let me get you a pic here in a bit.

Thats your leak right there, dont fill that tank full until you can drop it and replace the vent grommet.
Alright I have been looking for some pics but haven't been able to locate any, what im gonna do is syphon some gas out of the front tank, and this sunday I am gonna take the bed off, I got 3 brothers and a few big neighbors that can help me lift this thing off. The only thing I am uncertain about is the tail lights? Are there plugs for them? Or should I just unscrew the lens, unplug them and push the wires down through the bed?
I also figure while the beds off should I look into maybe replacing any other parts of the fuel system?
I also figure ill under coat that part of the frame, its not rusted really at all, but another salty winter in UpState NY will make it rust!
Thanks for all your help guys, now I just need a little info on taking the bed off.
While you have the bed off you might as well inspect everything in the rear. Its easier to fix it open than to crawl and dig around underneath. And im pretty sure you have to drop the pigtails back through the bed of the truck to clear the lights. There are six bolts holding the bed down. They are carriage bolts and the base has the square shaft.. if you wanna call it that, and then there is a nut on the bottom. If its rusted it may be a PITA to get out because sometimes the shaft rounds off and spins. Lubricant spray is always nice.
Yeah I found the 6 bolts, started spraying them with PB blaster tonight, the truck is rust free, except for a little bit of surface rust on the frame rails, but I figure since its off, I am gonna clean that all up, and put some sort of undercoat on, maybe the POR-15 stuff.
Thanks for the info on the lights too, I was under it trying to see if they just unplugged, but it looks like I am gonna have to snake em through.
I am gonna have a mechanic friend of mine take a look at everything else on the fuel systems on both tanks, and if stuff looks like it needs to be replaced, im just gonna do it so its done.
Thanks for all the help guys any and all advice is well taken and appreciated!
A rust free 94? wow... your lucky... sounds like your on the right track.
I just went thru all that, can see it in my gallery.
I actually had to replace my front tank this spring.. it was leaking and was always wet at the bottom,I ran it to empty and I just ran off the rear tank until I fixed it.
I ended up replacing both tanks while I was at it, you could almost push your finger thru the top of the rear one! Just take your time and you'll have no problems.
