Hard pressed speedometer cable conked out after about 10mi. I loosened the bracket, installed speedo cable, and bolted bracket back...notice the hard strain on the cable around bracket in pic, I'll have to grind or drill a hole or something...I'll need to repair and fix this...as I roll along
Other than that, everything better. Clutch is much better than ever before...truck is running...and as was mentioned before, I am going to try and "Level" the linkages out a little tomorrow morning.
If you flip the linkage down, it will reverse the gear shifting pattern...upside down pattern...and require using the rod linkage extension...but there is still room for adjustment by using the top hole and a little change on the gear selector hole.
These custom floor shifters do seem to want to install to close to the seat. Not sure if seat will go back any farther...but will try...not perfect, but working...
If you undo the bolt on the shifter under the truck, it can be re mounted further up the bracket. It looks like you could go forward two holes.
Not quite as easy as it looks...that little bracket with the bolt holding the shifter pivoting point is hard attached to that hole. Welded I think...that shifter bracket and the rest of the support bracket is like one solid piece. You'd have to chop it off, move to next hole, and re-weld to shorten...or that's how it looked to me.
Now, the Mr. Gasket #7667A has two bolts where that can be adjusted. Hurst is probably a good bit stronger because of how it is made, but not as easily adjusted...Hurst pivoting point pressure looks solidly centered...Mr. Gasket looks more offside to center...I think maybe that is so...
You can't help but notice how close it is to the seat as is, but it has not hindered or bothered anything at all so far...in fact, I may like the tucked back out of the way placement after awhile.
The front gear selector bracket has side-to-side wobble, a little shim washer should take the wobble out this morning...but the speedometer cable looks to be the biggie for me now. There is no 90 degree offset device as mentioned before, is there? I need to give it some thought as grinding is not that appealing, but there may not be a better option...

You know first, I think you are 100% right. My mind was blinded by the thought it was welded on, but right now as I look with flashlight...there looks to be one bolt holding it in place other than the pivot bolt. It does indeed look adjustable. I change my mind...ha.
When the speedo gear is off of the cable, is the cable diameter small enough to get away with drilling a hole in the side of the bracket? Then you could pass the cable through the bracket and re attach your speedo gear. That would not take any strength out of the bracket, and would take stress off of your cable.
In fact first today, I did go unbuckle the shifter handle, linkages, pivot (Center) bolt, and the one bolt holding the shift bracket to move it forward one hole. Thanks for pointing that out again. Had to cut the hole in floorboard another inch forward but now have plenty of room to shift...and, it is now shifting excellent. No trouble getting into any gear at all now.
Just remember to adjust distance to your liking before cutting hole...I had a small hole cut and boot still covered the adjustment after extending...just lucky.
I tried moving the linkages around to different holes, but for one reason or another I went back to the original position in picture above...worked best for me.
Easy to follow Instructions:
Not that clear of a picture...but:
Gear selector towards front of transmission (On left): Forward position is 3rd gear, middle position is Neutral, and back position is 2nd gear.
Gear selector towards rear of transmission (On right): Forward position is 1st, middle position is Neutral, and back position is Reverse.
Do you see the difference in quality between the two shifters? Unless the Mr. gasket has changed, the big difference is the spring loaded shifter on the hurst. It is really smooth and does not need to be forced. It does take getting a little used to.

You know, maybe that will work. I didn't pull the speedo gear off to see how big the cable was without it...but it just might work! This is the only problem I see that I have left regarding the column to floor shift conversion and will tackle it in a few days after a rest stop. I'm not sure if I can just replace the inside cable part with a kit or will need the housing too...bracket might have gouged into the housing...but no matter, I'll look into it soon enough.
Wow! Can't believe how great truck is shifting now. Good luck to anyone that has to do this. And be careful too!

Yesterday, I was forcing it a little...trying to control it too much...today, just glide it forward and it finds second gear by itself. Does take getting a little used to. And besides, yesterday shifting got bad but when I got home I saw the nut on a gear selector had backed off. Lock washer was missing. I put a lock washer on it, tightened it up good, and today it is shifting great.
The Mr. Gasket looks nice, clean, and shiny. But I have no idea how it works. I'd have to connect it to the transmission and see how the spring loaded pin snapped into place when shifting. I'd just as soon stick with the Hurst Indy as long as it is shifting like it is now. It probably is quite a bit better...but I've never tried a Mr. Gasket #7667A, even though I bought one.
That is good to hear and glad to see your back on the road.
I have used both shifters and am a big fan of the hurst. Good luck with the rest of your truck.
