Question Cheap headers for a 78 f250 4x4 with 460

I'm thinking about putting a 460 in a 78 f250 some day and I was looking for headers and the only ones I found were around $500. I would like to find a set for around $200 or would it be cheaper to get a fender well header kit and make my own? I have a welder and the ability to make some, just wanted some other options first. thanks

Also do I need different motor mounts to swap in a 429/460 into a truck that has a 400m?

I read some where that 429/460 motor mounts are the same as 400m mounts? It was in a hot rod magazine where they made a 500 horse 400m.

The 4x4 truck never came with a 385 series engine. This means that neither the 429 nor the 460 was available. Since the 2wd trucks have different crossmembers you wont find a factory motor mount (actually engine) or a perch that will work.
This is where the aftermarket comes in.
This is where the "cheap" goes out of the door.
Cheap fails, and requires you to try again. Cheap and reliable may not belong together. If something cheap is not reliable you may buy a similar product twice, so how will that be cost effective? It wont. Buy some headers that will last. They will have a flange that will not leak, and will do this for years to come. Cheap headers will have you fixing leaks all of the time, and that takes away from the fun time you can have with your truck.
The same is true for your engine mounts. Quality mounts will prevent your engine from moving which in turn may prevent the fan from hitting the radiator, or shroud. Buy cheap and have a failure on the road, and the cost of replacement for the damaged items will exceede the initial cost of the better product.
You get what you pay for, and shortcuts cost money on the long run, sometimes more.

L&L gets over 1200 bucls for a conversion kit, and if you own one you will realize that it is worth its weight in gold. Piece one together and it will cost far more in time and money.

Will these mounts allow the 460 to bolt to the stock perches?

Do you have a link? Hedman makes a nice set of fenderwell headers for $550, I guess I will have to lay down some cash on this one. I'm also thinking about swapping a 390 into it. Are there motor mounts I can get to do that? I'll need a new bell housing for the NP435 but the local junk yard makes that an easy task.
