10W40 bad for catalyst?
I have an older vehicle ('93), that uses a little oil, so I want to change from the recommended 10W30 to 10W40. I've been told that any of the "heavier" oils have increased phosphorous, which is detrimental to catalytic converters. Any truth to this? Is it permanent?
I'd rather feed it some oil than fail emissions!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Sep-02 AT 11:38 PM (EST)]I doubt the 10W40 would have any more phosphorous.It is true that higher levels of phosphorous and zinc have been associated with deterioration of the catalytic converter,but the levels are safe in that 10W40.
