4x4 front axle question

4x4 front axle question

Hey guys I got a quick question. I noticed that my front half shafts are locked in and always turning, even when not in 4x4, but the front drive shaft(transfer case to front axle) is not turning. Is this normal, I thought that nothing on the front was supposed to be turning when the truck is not in 4x4. Am I wrong? This is my first "new" truck so Im used to locking hubs.

to engage tje front end, you have a vacuum cylinder connected to the pumpkin that ties the drive shaft to the bevel gear shaft. when disengaged, the tires and axle shafts rotate as you move. the drivshaft is disconnected. you dont have hub disconnects, they are "on" all the time.

Ok, I wasn't sure if that was how it worked. So that front actuator only locks in the front drive shaft I understand. I was doing an oil change and wasnt sure if it was normal or not. Thanks!
