I modified an '86 hydraulic style bellhousing to accept the old style mechanical pivot bracket thereby negating the need to go to a hydro clutch. Basicaly just had to "shave" off the "ears" that mounted the slave cylinder to the same thickness as the stock mounting holes. Or you could just use an old style bellhouding I think

i was under the asumption that the late 80's 5speed trans. was a one piece aluminum housing?

My set-up is for a 4 speed (NP435).I don't know about the 5 speeds, but I'm sure someone on this board does.

The ZF is an integral bellhousing.

I would try to go the hydraulic route if that is feasible for you.

Here is a decent write-up for converting a mechanical linkage to hydraulic.

Although they use all new aftermarket parts I wouldn't think converting the OEM parts would be much different, if you haven't already done so grab as much of the donor truck's hardware that you can.

I second the hydraulic clutch. They have a great feel, and if your 3 speed linkage is like mine, it's worn out bad!
