Unhappy Turn signal problem

On my 1978 F250 4wd when you turn on the left turn signal the auto cancel does not turn it off when you return the wheel to straight. However the right turn signal works correct and cancels when you return the wheel to center, as it should. Is there a cheap way to fix this? Also the column is for an automatic but the shifter has been removed from the column. thanks

I had some issues getting the left blinker to work on my 77. Tried everything before I learned that someone had cut the wires inside the column and then poorly taped them togeter. I learned that the 78 steering wheel is different for the cancelling. There is a collar with 2 begs that slides over the shaft on the 77 and 78 has a different system as the collar wasn't on the steering wheel I removed. This may not help you out, but I know how frustrating it can be.

its the turns signal switch inside the column under the steering wheel. My 76 f350 is currently that way. Fairly common problem.

Do I have to replace the switch? It is around $100.

I think you can see if the plastic tabs are broken by pulling the steering wheel. A few screws and the assembly lifts straight out accept for the wiring thru the coloum. I assume 78's are similar. Maybe a salvage yard would have what your looking for?

Well It has a shifter on the floor and the column squeaks and is worn out down by the shaft. So I may go to the junk yard and get a manual column and the dash trim piece. I will make sure the signals work on the junk yard column too.

Also how come LMC's prices are so high compared to other places? They wanted $350 for a borgesun steering shaft and I got one from summit for $250.

There are three different turn signal switches for 1978/79 F100/350's, 1978/79 Bronco's.

All three are available from Ford

D8TZ13341A .. Use with Tilt Wheel ONLY.

MSRP: $127.88 // Y2KFORDPARTS.COM price: $102.82.
------------------------------------------------------------------
D8TZ13341B .. Use with Automatic Transmission

MSRP: $110.00 // Y2KFORDPARTS.COM price: $79.20.
----------------------------------------------------
D8TZ13341C .. Use with Manual Transmission.

MSRP: $99.66 // Y2KFORDPARTS.COM price: $80.12.

FTE sponsor: Y2KFORD PARTS: MILLENNIUM FORD in Seattle WA.
--------------------------------------------------------------
The reason the turn signal does not cancel on the left side is...the canceling cam is broken.

This is part of the turn signal switch, but autoparts stores sell a replacement. The problem is, it's a b!tch to install, and doesn't fit properly.

Well I got a good column today for $15. The turn signals work normal and the lower bushing is like new.
