oil leak
thanks
The usual problem is the back of the intake where it joins the block and the heads. That intake weighs close to 100 pounds, so be prepared to get some help with it. A cherry picker is very helpful, especially when putting it back in place to make sure the selas are not disturbed by shifting.
Here is the technique I used that lasted for many years:
1. Start with the intake removed and the gasket surfaces cleaned.
2. Put down a thin layer of RTV sealant on the front and rear lips of the block where they mate to the intake.
3. Set the block to intake gaskets down on the wet sealant before it dries.
4. Let sit overnight, or for at least 8 hours.
5. Install the head to manifold gaskets (no sealant!)
6. Put a thick layer of RTV sealant on the upper surface of the gaskets you installed the night before, the ones between the block and the intake.
7. Put a blob of RTV sealant in the 4 corners where the intake mates to the heads and the block.
8. Set the intake down taking care to not shift it (this is where the cherry picker really comes in handy!)
9. Bolt it down, and let it sit overnight before running.
