I was wondering how exactly this is done. key on? when I put the screwdriver on the terminals do I then run around and try to start or do I need a helper.
It helps to have someone inside to run the key for you.
Key off- put your multimeter black probe on a good ground and the red probe on the large post of the GPR closest to the fender. Should have around +12V. Now put the red lead on the other large post, should be 0V.
Key on (but not cranking)- both large posts should have +12V. If there is more than 1V drop across the relay it's time for a new one.
Not sure what you mean, Phil, but when my GPR was going out, I could hear it "clicking" on and off with the engine running. Is that what you mean by "stuck on" or are you referring to something else?
if stuck on, i think it stays super hot (temp) and your voltage gauge never comes up. then your batteries die a painful death because alt can keep up with draw. or at least i think that is what happened with me
