5w20 revisited

98 E-350 V-10 XLT 15 pass Clubwagon. 69,000 miles. Ran 5W-30 like the manual suggested the first 60K. Then Ford came out with a 5W-20 advisory, said to use it in ALL V-10 Fords. So I do. I have noticed maybe .5 or 1 mpg increase in MPG and maybe, maybe a little quicker throttle response. But no cooler temps or anything like that. I fully expect this Ford engine to go 200K+ like all my Fords have prior. I'll let you know when I get there. And at 60-70K a year now it won't take long.

5w20 revisited

Thanks to all who responded. My '02 edge just hit 8,000 miles and got his 3rd oil change today. I am sticking with the Castrol 5w20 and Motorcraft filter for now. I figure if I stick to 3K intervals at least the addatives will hang around and that may be enough to keep engine wear to a minimum. When a major oil company releases their full synthetic 5w20 at the first of the year, I will be using that and maybe stretch the intervals to 5K.
