Steering Column Suggestions???

Steering Column Suggestions???
I have just finished a Volare front clip in my 54 and would like some ideas on a steering column. I am trying to stay under the Flaming/Ididit price range, so a junk yard raid is in order. I want tilt, auto, and no key, any dos and don'ts would be helpful.

Early (70-80) GM G van with ignition switch on the dash and hard to find P vans (parcel delivery step van).

Should I expect to do any shortening or other modification? Advantages to ford vs gm? Thanks for the help...I'll give you a yell if have trouble finding one close to home tac.
