I agree, it is kinda stupid to have no tow hooks. Myself I want to fab in a reciever hitch so I can do a quick mount/dismount for my winch that i have.

thats a good idea. if not mount a winch you could put a hitch up front. for tight trallier backing. and added frame strength in front.
you can get a good ste of after market hooks and a piece of high strength agle iron 3/8" thick or so and pull your front bumper off temporarily, and A. drill and bolt the side of the angle to the side of frame through the the inner tube be mindful of the front spring shackle. or the same to the bottom but youll have to reach over the shackle to bolt off the bottom-you can use a piece of good plate if you choose the bottom just remember to allow claerances for the hook and its connected piece rope or chain. This is the best method I know.
I'm fixin' to install a deer catcher (brush guard, push bar, what have you) on either or both of the wife's '95 PSDs (yes, she got another one!). Presumably this requires removing the bumper, or at least unbolting a bolt at a time. Would this be an opportune time to install tow hooks? Is there a pre-fab set that interfaces with the bumper bolts, without having to fab/weld anything? Will they even fit, in conjunction with the bar?
But the bumper bolts directly to the frame, right? So the hooks would be bolted directly to the frame, along with the bar and the bumper. What if I upgraded to grade 8 bolts? Seems to me fewer holes in the frame is better than more.
The bumper tab is not strong enough for the tow hooks... Even though its on the frame, they bend pretty easily.... Mine are pretty bent up and I have bent them back into place with a tow strap and another truck.

The bumber is bolted on with four I think they are Metric 6 bolts and speed nuts, that is far from strong enough. Something has to be fabbed up directly to the frame with grade 8 hardware and IMO at least 5/8 in size
Yikes, that sounds wimpy. I'll have to see whether the deer catcher attaches via the M6 bolts (for pete's sake, my wee little Saturn is put together with those things!), or if it goes right to the frame end of the tabs.
the frame is already pre-drilled, just use those holes to mount your hardware, that is what I used when putting on my winch bumper and it has yet to even think about moving, and I have a 2" receiver on the front so I can move trailers around
