I don't use amsoil, however I use synthetic in all my engines. They all start at -30F without preheating. Other than that I would use conventional oil.

I had a friend who raced mini's and volks that he never needed to rebuild. I lived where it would hit -60 below and jump into my 89 VW jetta and go, running mobil 1 15w50 too.I used to run the thruway at 80-90 mph and get 40-44 mpg sound weird, but very true. I put in a new valve cover gasket at 194,000 miles and the cam had no valve lash or build up. I changed the oil and filter every 10k, I sold that car at 195,000 in 1993 and still see it around today. Well everything I own now including my 78 f150 has mobil 1 15w50 including mowers, tractors, wife, (oops)lol Believe it, there are oils and filters out there now that never need changing. Old schools dont last forever. Be a believer.

Go ahead and tell Amsoil. This web site is private property and we are free to make our on policies concern who can and who can't post. What are they going to do? Spank me for saying I won't allow dealers to post?
You've proven exactly why Amsoil dealers aren't welcome:
The majority can't get their heads out of their intestines long enough to do anything other than try to pitch the products to everyone they meet and spam message boards, email lists and Usenet groups. Bunch of cloned MLM zombies.
Amsoil: its not just an oil, its a religion!

ken knows how to handle the A.H.s that come here talking crap.
i dont know what in gods name amsoil is. it sounds like some sunday morning cable tv infomercial crap. ken is right amsoil is a religion, also a cult, amsoil dealers probally have bizzare rituals where they take baths together in the amsoil (including TSHAC).
i dont care what kind of oil is used in an engine, the outcome is always the same, you change it at the scheduled time with the right weight oil, the motor will give you a good long well served duty. if you dont change it, you motor will fail you. its all about preventive maintmance(oil changes), not some gimmick oil.

For all and or anyone that is a synthetic user. Before you get offended, I did use Synthetics my entire racing career and firmly believe that they helped me to win 4 Sprint National Championships, 1 Marathon Championship and 1995 US1. This was in OUTBOARDS, where the throttle was on the floor for the majority of the race. I feel that Synthetics, as they were then, were beneficial. REAL Synthetics are beneficial for engines operated under EXTREME conditions. Now the SAD news. Read the November 2000 issue of Car and Driver. The rules for synthetics have changed. In 1997 API and SAE in their brilliance have decided that almost any lubricant can be called "Synthetic". Now a "Synthetic" can be a hydrocarbon based lubricant that has undergone a chemical change. This is double talk. This basically means that I can take Rerun 30 weight oil, boil it, and call it "Synthetic". It underwent a "Chemical Change" when it was boiled. I really love this bit of Bait and Switch by the Synthetic industry. I am in the Petroleum Refining Business for Citgo Petroleum. I have been an Operating Engineer for 24 years, so, I know a little about lubricants.
Feel free to e-mail me and request a copy of the article. I have saved it and scanned it just for laughs.
When talking about synthetic oils two oils stand out Amsoil and Red Line. I personally use Amsoil in all my car including my 1990 Mustang which is now only used for racing. Independent testing ( as far as the Mustang goes ) show a 52° F drop in rear dif. temps when Amsoil was used. Heat is the result of friction. I have also seen a truck with an automatic trans. gain 6 hp !!!!!! by simply converting everything to synthetics Red Line in the motor and Amsoil everywhere else i.e tranny & difs. A lot less friction makes more hp. Synthetics in general also run cleaner. This is due in most part to their lower ash levels. In fact, I believe Amsoil and Red Line have 0 ash levels.
There are a few independent labs out there that run analysis of oil components of the major oil companies products. Look them up on the net.
My 1990 mustang has 140,000 miles on it, with oil changes ever 10,000 miles or so. It's driven hard and even harder now. The heads were pulled for a blown head gasket and the head were like brand new ( super clean, not a speck of sludge ). I still have great oil pressure and near factory compression in all 8 cylinders!
LAST EDITED ON 13-Apr-01 AT 09:28 PM (EST) by webmaster (admin)[p]Ken, it's pretty obvous you have a XXXXXXX for amsoil. you spell it right out in you terms of use. no mention of any other specific vendors by name.
you're page is XXXX, and I know that it is your peice of XXXX. you are trying to build a page along the lines of ford-diesel.com, but you don't even come close. that is a page that has a huge following and a loyal community of PSD owners that help each other out. they don't chase off product dealers. they have a very good page, much better than this one.
oh, and by the way, i am an amsoil dealer. i am a dealer because i am happy with the product. i am not a member of any cult as you put it. my religion is lutheran. unlike you, i guess i'm pretty open-minded. i could care less if anyone buys oil from me . the key is to buy good oil and change it regularly, whether it's synthetic, petroleum, or made from ground up wales.
Your posting only backs my claims. Once again, an Amsoil dealer is here acting like a child. I even had to edit the words of your posting. Another fine example of an Amsoil dealer and another reason why postings about Amsoil by Amsoil dealers are not welcome here. How does Amsoil feel about dealers violating the TOS of sites while representing them?
Go back to Ford-diesel.com, I have no fear of them. Jason has a fine site and I wish him success. I find it humorous that you think we're trying to copy him when Ford Truck Enthusiasts was the first site of its kind. F-D came after FTE, not visa versa.
Evidently to be an Amsoil dealer you have to vow never to use the shift key under any circumstances. Is it a side effect of the brain washing necessary to be an MLM? Who knows? Maybe the government can fund a study...
No, I am not a Redline Oil Dealer. I have used their products in a variety of my vehicles and my race cars. Synthetics are very good but expensive. It seems to me that Ken disapproves of the Amsoil marketing, not he synthetics, and that is his right to do so. The site should remain free from commercials, there are enought on the TV. Keep up the good work Ken.
You are correct, I do not disapprove of synthetics. I use synthetics in my own trucks. I also do not disapprove of Amsoil. You nailed it perfectly, its the marketing tactics.
I have a friend who sells Amsoil, commercial accounts only with products you and I never see ie. 55 gal. drums of fluids to large earth moving equipment i.e. tractors, bulldozers, etc.
The stuff must be good, or he's a really good salesman. The guys got a nice house and travels all over the state selling to big accounts.
He only gets me stuff because we've known each other for so long.
As a chemist, I'm impressed with some of Amsoils products.
They have a biodegradable hydraulic fluid. It addresses many pollution problems. He sells a ton to South American mines.
He may also have a huge downline working their butts off making a ton of money for them while they get peanuts working for their "dream." That's the sad tail of MLMs.
