Have a 2001 f350 7.3 with auto trans. Just stopped at light and applied gas, no go at all. Feels like truck is in neutral or park. after several minutes truck would engage but only in 2nd and would only drive for several minutes that slip out of gear again. 96k on clock. What do u think?

yes I have a 4 x 4 but emailed seller and asked for 4 x 4 kit. just wondering how good kit would be vs having a shop sell me a rebuild trans. trying to get a good trans but on the cheap end so i guessed i would rebuild myself. what do u think of kit? same parts shops use lile , BTS?

You might wait for mueckster to chime in. He R&R'd his own trans and is happy with it. But... it's not for the meager and you've got to either buy or build a bunch of specialty tools to do it.
And you have to know what you are looking at with the hard parts to know if they need replacement. From what I hear, the planetary gears usually go out in the 4R100.
