Ha.. well why didn't you say that in the first place... that's your problem right there. You have to understand most of these I6 trucks came with stupid fuel milage gearing(2.72 or 3.08) so even with the stock 27" tires they were real sluggish. What gearing does your truck have?
P.S. BTW.. this means you're not getting 9mpg either.. it's more like 13 or 14 you just don't know it because your speedo and ODO are way off. You're trying to use the fuel gauge to calculate milage are you?? Fixing/recalibrating the speedo is easy too, just change the driven gear on the end of the speedo cable down in the trans or transfer case where it connects.
Sorry Conanski, I didnt think about it before cause the EGR code is what I was worried about, since thats all that came up. Im not sure what gearing the trucks has, the tranny was rebuilt and I doubt its stock. Maybe you could tell me cause the axles are Front a Dana 44 and Rear an 8.8. I dont know what stock is but if those are switched then I can almost guarantee my dad had the trans switched inside. He took it out on the trails a lot. When I asked him about it before he said 'dont worry, its regeared' But he is in Iraq now so its hard to get a hold of him.
No I can't tell you what gearing it has, you'll have to figure that out yourself since it may not be stock. The way to do it is jackup the rear axle and put it on stands. Put the trans in neutral and put a chalk mark on the driveshaft and one on a tire. Now spin the tire and count how many revolutions it takes to make the driveshaft turn 1 time, or better yet how many it takes to spin the driveshaft 10 times and then divide that by 10. If it takes 27 revolutions you have 2.73 gears, 30 revs you have 3.08 gears, 35 = 3.55 gears, 40 revs = 4.10 gears, etc..

No, well, im calculating with the fuel guage but I sorta checked it using my girlfriend Ford Taurus. I went a distance, calculated the miles, then filled up my fuel tank, took the trip, filled up, and calculated. I know the speedo is off. So, its as simple as putting a new gear at the end of the cable, nothing internal? I may just do that. Where do I get something like that? Summit?
...and it's not just a spot weld I mentioned...
"the muffler pipe has a notch and the exit pipe from the cat has
a spot welded {on} matching stud for alignment".

The muffler is off my '91 Bronco and the round cat is off the 287k
'90 F250 parts truck.
