My EGR 332 Experience
Pulled the codes, 332.
I pulled the EGR valve. Cleaned it a little, did a test by holding my finger on it, to make sure it would hold. Lubed the center rod with a little white grease.
That didn't fix it.
Turns out my 9J459 part was cracked. This is the part which has an electrical connector, and has a "in" and "out" vacuum line, stacked right on top the other.
$37 and and visit to the Ford dealership, and it was fixed.
No check engine light any more.
After reading the forums, here is my checklist:
EGR valve moves freely, and holds vacuum.
Any tube in the vacuum line has leak, or even the coffee can is rusted.
EGR Vacuum Control Value is defective (9J459).
I think the principle is
Start Easy, work to Hardest reason
Check vacuum, that stops the bus right there.
Make sure EGR valve mechanically works (free movement, holds vacuum)
Move onto the electrical things, like the 9J459.
Anyway, the forums got me going, and it finally worked out.
I have a 4.9 I6 300 engine. EGR valve is located at back of engine.
I "liquid wrenched" the threads of the EGR valve 5 hrs before trying to take it off. Don't skip this step, or you might break the threads.
The 9J459 was between the EGR valve and oil filter (4.9L engine remind you) on a mounting bracket , mounted to side of the engine. There were 3 vacuum devices there, the 9J459 was the biggest one on the left.
I think people might call the 9J459 a "EGR VACUUM SOLENOID", but there are some ambigious terms posted here.
Below is a picture of the 9J459, which I found online. Hopefully, the link won't die, and you'll be able to see the image.
