Talking A Thought....

Well the wife and I decided to take a little trip this weekend so we took the truck for a 500 mile walk. This was a short trip for me, as most of my trips are 1k or more.

I would like to post that I used a little less than a 1/2 tank of fuel, and the truck didnt skip a beat.

So I guess after being away and reading all the negative stuff again I will revive another happy thread. I know that this may bite me in the butt, but thats ok.

It's nice to read a good 6.0 post from time to time. I know that most people on the FTE site are looking for solutions to problems they are having so it stands to reason that the majority of the post will be problem orientated. However, I think sometimes the 6.0 gets a lot of bad press because of the negative post on forums such as this. We should all remember from time to time to post good things as well.

Happy driving.

It is definitely great to hear good news stories once in a while. So, what is the secret to getting 500 miles out of less that 1/2 tank of fuel?

Cute Mark, thanks. I was thinking that, but he doesn't have that listed in his signature. I stopped in to see him one day last year and I don't recall talking about a larger tank. I guess I was hoping he had a Holy Grail that he would share with us.

I just towed 14,200lbs worth of truck and trailer 310 miles round trip at 65-70 mph on a single tank of fuel this past Sat to an event that featured over 10 6.0's pulling an object that exceeds their tow ratings by 400% and all of them made the trip back home with the convoy happy and healthy. There are some good ones out there I guess...

You guessed it Mark,

Brad I'm not gonna tell you all my secrets but now since Mark let the cat out of the bag yes I have a 60 Gallon transflow tank where the stock one used to be.

Plus for some reason I am actually getting right between 20-22 mpg hand calculated. This will be the second consistant trip with these results.

Like I said I am sure that I am gonna get bit in the pooper for starting 2 "happy" threads after 2 long trips but for now I am loving it.

After my poor experience with the 04 I am not regretting getting back into a 6.0 not even a little.

Is that sucker harpooned? If not, do you play the "top it off" game for 5 or so minutes to make sure it's packed full? I guess I'm jealous as I've been on the higher end of most people with my mileage. I just got 18mpg on the last tank. I fill up at the same place every time and the same way; when it kicks off I go 2 more gallons to top it off. My patience only allows for 2 gallons.

I'd like to add a good story to this one. I got my 6.0 back in April. First thing I had the problems with the water in fuel sensor, then had to replace the EGR Cooler and Oil Cooler. Since then, I've put 4K on it. One trip to the beach and 2 trips to the mountains pulling the 5th wheel. It always gets over 12.5mpg towing and has been nothing but a pleasure to tow with. I keep it stored with the 5th wheel and use my V10 as my daily driver. But I have to say, I look forward to getting the PSD out a few times a month to make my interstate trips, towing or not. I'm really happy with it. And, I don't care if it breaks down in the future, I'll fix it and keep on trucking.

Yeah I play the game...I can actually get close to 67 gallons in it depending on the wether and my paticence. Remember too Brad I am running a tune, bigger I/C, and elbow. I dont know how much those parts benefit but I am real suprised too. I think it has more to do with the tune and my gentle foot on take offs...although its hard to resist the tuned take off sometimes. I do refrain though.

yesterday was the first time I heard the fan kick on. Probably one of the hottest and most humid days up here in a while. Plus running in stop and go traffic didnt help. Just for my own curiosity I checked the Degas bottle, no puking, no smoke from the tail pipe, and the level was right at the add line so all is well. Now I know what all you guys say when you say "Damn that fan is loud" Mine only came on for a sec. or 2 after I restarted the truck but I am glad it works.

Sorry for the ramling.

Ok so I refueled on Saturday and topped it right off, heres what I got. 473.9 miles and used 23.5 gallons to fill it right to the top. Unless my math is wrong I come up with 20.16 mpg. This is consistant with the last trip I took averaging right around the same.

Although in the city I am only getting around 14.4-15.1 mpg...I'll take it either way
