New alternator..got issues??
Damn it.. got the new alternator installed (Quick Start 160amp heavy duty) and my batt light comes on solid now when rpms are above idle. It stayed on for about 10-15mins solid until I got to the freeway and it went off..was running just a hair above 1800 rpms. Got off freeway and it didn't come back on again. Wife told me just now that the day she drove it to work it did the same.

New or rebuilt? I have seen rebuilt ones bad from the get-go. Best is to check with a digital VOM on the battery. Test with engine off, read battery voltage. Then start, bring r's up and read if it is charging or not. Engine off volts should be 12 to 12.5, running should be 13.5 to 14.5 range.

Ok, took truck to auto parts store and they tested.. at the time the batt light was on.. under load (lights, a/c) it only tested 12.3v charging. Sales person said that it probably wasn't the alternator and something with the trucks wiring..ok... took it to Ford and as I got on the freeway the light went off. Ford tested it and said it was charging good..light off and still off.
I'm thinking the alternator cold isn't working so good and when it gets some heat in it..it starts charging just fine. Called QuickStart and they are sending me another unit.
