hey, i have a 1996 f350 crew cab 4x4. when i slow down on the high way to get off it, the rear end of the truck bounces, it also does this when i am towing a boat, only it happens when i am accelerating or coasting, the shocks are good and the brakes shoes are fine. Anyone have an idea?
Can you describe it better? I picture wheel hop like when one tries to do a burnout but I'm gussing it's not that violent and more of something you feel rather than something you might see if you were watching from another vehicle.
its definitly coming from the rear end, idk can drums warp? it feels like someone is jumping on the bumper, and it usually happens at speeds above 35 MPH. My U-joints are good i checked them recently
i dont know, i looked at the shoes today and they still had plenty of meat on them, i would think that if they are going to warp it would be near the end of their lives
I had a similar problem from what I thought were good U-joints. Then all of a sudden one day it was toast. Replaced it and haven't had the bad vibrations since.
Now that I think about it mix 'n match is right the U-joint is more of a vibration than a hop. Sounds like axle wrap to me. If the leafs are old and warn they wouldn't be as strong anymore and would cause said symptoms. But if that were the problem, you'd probably be noticing it when you start off more so than at highway speeds. I get a bit of axle wrap when I let of the gas at any speeds but if you have an auto you shouldn't notice it as much. And if I hit the gas at any speeds I will get some.
And to play with his sig also... i didn't think before I lift and now I suffer from horrendous axle wrap but it is cool cause it makes it accelerate like a loaded semi...

Reason: more detail...
i would say it is less than one per revolution, i had thought it may be axle wrap, but i dismissed it cause i hoped that it wasn't. if it is because of weakening springs, could i do anything about it other than replacing the springs? would it be best to drive it for awhile and see if it gets worse before i do anything drastic?
I agree about the warped brakes being the cause. This is most likely the problem. If it really is the rear that is bouncing pretty bad, then the drums need to be turned and get some new shoes. My truck did this for a little while and that fixed it. Same thing with my friends Dodge.
