i did mine at 60k go at least that far that will give you time to get the right tools look up the right process( cause 2v is differant than 3v) and you can research your next set of plugs dont ask here because no one will agree on a plug
If you are talking about your 06... I have the same engine. Triple patnums go for a long time. I have 46000 on mine. I wouldnt even consider it yet. Maybe at 100,000 miles. But the dealer says only change them if they are missing. My brother has original in his 4.0 liter and it runs like a top at 186000?? it is all different now
Yeah normally I wouldn't consider changing them at 28,000.
But are the factory plugs the two piece design that break easy.
I was thinking preventative maintenance vs scheduled maintenance.
change them. usually i would say change the plugs between 75k-100k, but with these plugs, get them out. you don't want to get yourself to the point when you have a misfire and you are pressed for time to get it done. if you are a do it yourselfer, set aside a weekend to do it. many people around here say that they have had good luck with using marvel mystery oil before they changed the plugs. but i won't use anything with the word "mystery" in it. champion makes a one piece design plug, but i prefer to use motorcraft in all fords. it is still a 2 piece plug, but they are welded together instead of pressed together as were the original plugs. just ask your fors dealer for the correct plug number. follow the tsb for the removal and i suggest purchasing the tools for removing the broken plug because it is better to be safe than sorry. and here is my thread from when i changed mine at 50k: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...broke-2-a.html
I agree with the OP and others that it is wiser to change the plugs now than wait until the recommended maintenance period. My F350 has 31,000 miles on the engine. I definitely will try the Marvel Mystery Oil to make the job easier... my grandfather is a true believer in MMO! I plan to use the Denso plugs for better performance. I also plan to replace the COP's with either Motorcraft or Sultans of Spark (SOS).
The only plugs available for these engines are Champions, Motorcraft & Autolite's. The champions are the best choice, they 2 parts are welded together and will not seperate, like the Motorcraft's and Autolite's.
What year did Ford start putting these plugs in the F-250? I think I read somewhere it was from 2005-2007. I have a 2004 5.4 F-250, just wondering if I have them or not without pulling one to see. Don't like to mess with something that isn't broke.

I'm pretty sure your OK, yours should be a 2 valve 5.4, the 3 valve motors are the ones that have the problem.
