Auburn,
How did you paint the inserts? Did you remove them from the chrome surround or did you mask it off? I was thinking of doing the same thing as you.

I took the inserts out. They are suprisingly easy to remove considering the amount of tabs there are. I took a flathead screwdriver and slowly pryed at the inner most tab on the insert from one side to the other and it slowly came off.
Those are aftermarket headights. projector Halo headlights is what I typed in a search engine. Wish I knew exactly where I got them cause I paid about $90 and I've seen them for over $300 on other websites. They are one piece and take some surgery to fit. Stock headlights won't go back in anymore.
Auburn,
What paint did you use? How did you prep the surface prior to painting? Thanks for the help so far. I have been planning to do this for a while but, did not want to take out the inserts for fear of messing them up.

As far as prep goes, I put the inserts in the bathtub with Dawn dish detergent to get rid of any greases or waxes that might have built up over time and a wash cloth. Took lots of time doing that. it has lots of holes.
As far as the paint, it was an automotive trim paint that I bought from Advanced Auto took me 2 cans to do everything cause I got more paint through the grill than on the grill
I like it. Hey looking at your pic, I also see that you upgraded headlight/turnsignal assembly from a stock? I'm thinking about upgrading my stocks to the 05 superduties that look just like yours (no yellow turn signals & clear. looks nice....
I took the emblem off. That was a little tricky but if you break the slots on the grill, just use some gorilla glue. just a little though, that stuff will spread and foam. I didn't break miune but I worried that I mitght have weakened it, so I used some glue.

Looks nice - good job! I have to paint my grill as the previous owner had a bug shield on the hood which rub away paint in a few areas on the top of the grill. The insert has really turned a strange color - almost a light mustard yellow... really doesn't go well with red! Thanks for posting - now I think I'll paint my surround the original red and the insert black. btw - what did you use for the filter material to cover the condenser and how did you mount it? Will that affect the a/c or cooling at all or does it look like it will flow well? Thanks for taking the time to post your results and pics!
its a cheap (window unit for the home) air conditioner filter from walmart. you'll have to buy two since it's just not wide enough to cover the whole radiator. There is a this plastic flap at the top of the radiator that I tucked it under and looks like it'll hold just fine and just hangs down. I think it'll flow just fine since it's not a heavy material.
