I just bought a new Timing Set for my 352. Got it from Edelbrock and they aren't even close to the same. The old cam sprocket has 36 teeth the new one has 48 and is so much larger that it scrapes the cover when in place. Bill, can you see if you can find me the right one here locally? Or steer me in the right direction, Everywhere I go to look for it I get the same Part number a 7808 number ( I know not FORD) it's a Edelbrock number.
Thanks
Rob, Heres the p/n info on the gears from the handy dandy catalog...hopefully its not been superceded, but even if it has a parts store should be able to hook you up...
Im not sure if the service parts would be nylon coated teeth like the OE cam gear but if not the p/n oughta help a parts guy at NAPA or carQuest hunt them down...
BTW, the carb base gasket # is G26072...CarQuests p/n...xomes in their bag...In looking at my receipt for it...one was 2.19 and the other which was ordered was 6.57...either way, its cheap...
Just for shhets and giigles I will check at my store down here tomorrow and see what I can scare up...
Thank you Bill, good to hear from you, hope you are well. I wonder if this was in the wrong box or what? And Thanks again Don for coming by to look at it, I probably would have customized that cover and been in real trouble, See what you can find. I may end up going with the cheaper one just to get going for now, I have to have this thing done in two weeks for camping.
LOL...I went up there tonight Bill and I had my hunch confirmed...glad I cked the catalog before I left...tooth and link count is a nice thing...I would say its a matter of the guy at the counter not reading something right...the new cam gear was about 5/16 or so larger OD then the OE sprocket that was pulled from it...I wonder what the parts guy will say when he's told he sold a big truck engine timing set!!!! I would love to see that one...
By cheaper...you arent meaning the set I saw tonight I hope...I will let ya know what I find...give a call in the afternoon if you get a chance..
