On my 06 F350 whenever it gets below a quarter tank of fuel I get a water in fuel message on dash.I can put fuel in it and message will leave. and stay off until i get back to quarter tank.
If I change the fuel filters will this cure my problem or do i have water in my fuel tank.
The HFCM (pump.filter assembly on the frame) is where the sensor is. You can just pull it out and clean it, it just pulls out with plyers. Mine was all gummed up, I replaced it because I had already bought one but it could have been cleaned I think. Worth a shot only takes a few mins. If not a new sensor is only like $20
I've had a similar problem in my '06 6.0. I've drained the frame filter assembly twice. My mechanic reccommended pulling the filter and plug out, then spraying carb cleaner through the assembly to clean out any potential contaminants. Replace the filter and flush with clean fuel. That sensor cna be really sensitive.

Just be sure to pup the sensor out too otherwise you wont get it all out.
Drained seperator today and had some water in it.just purchased this truck about a week ago and plan on doing a full sevice in the next few days.On my 99 I only changed fuel filter once a year.Is this okay for the 6.0.this truck is not a daily driver. It will be used manily to pull camper.I will probably average less than 6k a year on it.
Also I'm very picky about where I'll get my fuel.

I have a probem, chg my rail filter, drove it for an hour or so,
made it home park the truck. Came back to start it and it turned over, but didn't start. I checked to line to make sure that fuel was getting to the top filter no problem. A friend told me I might have air in it...
How do you get the air out if that is the problem?

On the 6.0 it should purge itself of air, it'll chug and put out some white smoke and idle really rough, but I'm almost 100% the manual says that's normal getting the air out of the common rails. And I don't think there's a fuel cutoff switch in the cab on our trucks either. I've seen them in cars, but I've never seen one in a Gen1 SD.
Flip the key into the On position and let the glow plug light go out, then let it just sit there until you hear the fuel pump shut off. Do that a few times, and try to crank it.
