Dogs and *****

Dogs are color blind, right? Then can someone explain this? Was out in the shed today. Our dogs have two *****. those 24" play ***** for kids to bounce. One is green swirls and one is purple swirls. both are faded by the sun. Took the green one and tossed it out, the dog just watched it fly by. Took the purple one out and the dog chased it around the yard. How in the world can a dog tell the difference between the two?

my dog JP will take a red grease rag out of my back pocket and not a blue one. his dad Jake "my avatar" would only take a red rag out of my pocket also.

I've always thought the dog being color blind thing was bull. I've seen the shows were the camera shows what a dog supposedly see's and it's like a badly pixelated digital picture.

Sure, that is what they "think" a dog see's but I have always thought that a dogs brain interprets that information far different that what science thinks it does.

Don't know. Both ***** were in the shed together for several days. Even leaving both in the yard, he'll go after the purple but not the green one.

Some color blind people can distinguish between some colors. They may not know what the color is exactly. Just look at a photo that was color, then make it black and white. You can still tell there are lots of colors, you just cant tell what it what. So I doubt the color blindness has anything to do with the *****. Maybe there was a smell on the one the dog didnt like.
As for the dog that wont go after a blue rag, if you are whearing blue jeans, it probably blends into the jeans so the dog cant see it.

My dog wouldn't have given a crap about what color they were and would have tried to play with both of them at the same time LOL,and I don't believe the color blind theory.

"Color-Blind" is misunderstood often. When a person is color-blind, it doesn't mean they can only see in black and white (although it is possible, it is ridiculously rear), it means they usually have a problem seeing a specific color, such as red, green or blue. Often to a color blind person, two different colors may look very similar or the same.

Dogs are the same way, and according to that chart shorebird posted, Dogs lack a lot in the red and green spectrum

Perhaps the dog can see, or is more stimulated by, the violet (purple) end of the spectrum.
If you look at the link the dogs view of green is white to pale beige.

We already know dogs can hear many things that are too high a pitch for us humans to discern.
And their sense of smell may be hundreds of thousands times better than ours.
Why wouldn't this be the same with their other senses?
