my truck has 164k on it and has the same antifreeze since 1997, should i change it?
i've read many treads on this topic and still no clear cut answer-
1. do i change it?
2. if so what kind do i use?
3. how do i go about changing it?
4. do i add water to it?
5. i need simple instructions please.......!
1. Yes, change it, and you should change the t-stat and inspect the water pump
2. Any green coolant is ok, some come pre-charged with SCA's (like Cat and Some Cummins brand coolants) if you get reg stuff, buy some DCA (Diesel Coolant Additive) like Fleetgaurd DCA4
3. Flush system just like on reg car, most auto parts places sell a flush kit.
4. Add only distilled water to the system, try to keep 50/50 coolant/water ratio
Just check around the water pump nose to see any leaking, it's just a good idea to change the t-stat while you are doing the coolant system, because it is 12 years old already, it may not be broke now, but it will later, might as well save yourself some time and effort, but that's just my .02
you guys keep on talking about your t-stat lasting less than a year.
how did this one last this long.
any tips on flushing, and how many gallons of antifreeze should i buy.
