I noticed after passing a vehicle yesterday on my way to work a blue cloud behind me, thought nothing of it until I started smelling burned oil on my way home and noticing a 10-15 sec crank time when cold, this was yesterday, well on my way to work this morning I noticed the same smell but worse, and a mile later a guy in front of me looking back at my truck which got me really nervous so i got out at the light and noticed oil dripping on the pavement, I slowly drove it to the frod dealer close by and while it was sitting there a 1qt puddle formed undeneath, it seems to be coming from the passenger rear area under or near the turbo but i could not tell all i saw was smoke coming up from behind the turbo, They should be calling me soon to tell me the bad news hopefully it is nothing major, the serv rep suggested maybe a bad icp, thankfully i should still fall under the 5yr 100k warranty as it only has 86k on it and is an 05'.
I was always told to drive it like you stole it but now i'm starting to wonder if that is what caused the failure, as it seemed to happen right after i got into it full pedal, but funny thing is it never would go over 28lbs of boost.
BTW. i don't run any kind of tuner or anything like that stock except for gauges and straight exhaust
not sure. but all the while it ran fine, which is why i didn't catch it right away, but like i stated the 10-15 sec crank times was a clue as it started happening all of the sudden, and i noticed the tach jumping while it was cranking.I should have pulled over to check the oil level but it made it to the ford dealer,
sounds like a ICP to me, they have a o-ring that will let go. Could also be a oil cooler.
BUT it should be under the 5-100.
just got a call from the dealer. it is a plug in the top of the hpop that is the culprit, it is covered under the 5/100. he told me it isn't something they see as often. but he said instead of replacing the plug they are going to replace the whole hpop. most likely a monday pickup.

Sorry you had problems, but good news on the repair though.

yeah, I was lucky i caught it. i hope it didn't do any damage to the injectors, LOL i kept smelling oil thinking about who's car was not maintained in front of me and all the while it was me, I sure miss my truck already, can't wait to get her back. i might not even be able to sleep tonight knowing she is with strangers.
If you haven't already had it done, make sure they install the fix for the STC fitting since they'll be right there anyway. Maybe they'll do this as normal procedure but I'd ask anyway.

serv rep said he was going to replace the whole HPOP but i dont see the part listed, But i guess that changed after he found the tsb solved the issue and realized the pump was not defective, looks like i have a good Ford dealer near me though, he seemed very through.
I still can't get over how complex these engines are, I thought to myself after this happened if there were other diesel trucks I.E GM,DODGE that didn't have problems, but all their forums have the same list of issues, it looks like the Govt' mandated emissions will prove in time to be killer of the light duty diesel
