That block should work. You will need to use a lot of your stuff off of the bad engine to make it work though. So yes, it can be used. Are you sure the older one is worth fooling with?

EDIT: Sorry, where are my manners? Welcome to FTE.

welcome to FTE. You will find alot of usefull info on here. Your best bet is to take the motor out of your truck and set the two motors side by side and swap over the parts that arent the same

Thanks.

No but Im not shure on what to do.
I bought my truck with 130,000 miles from an auction
the top to the air filter housing was not screwed down all the way
when I got it. Now my engine is dusted dont know how mutch damage
that caused with my external parts like HPOP, LPOP,turbo ect.
found a 7.3 for 2,300 bucks I just figured that would be cheaper than
a entire rebuild but I dont know? The 98 has supposed to have been
rebuilt as well and has some extras like an ambulance alt 240 amp.

What is your current engine doing or not doing? Have you checked the compressor wheel for signs of dusting. Give us the poop man and we will try to help you out.

No havent checked the compresser wheel,
I had some hard start issues took it in tfor glow plugs they told me I needed 3 new injectors and new plugs so I put performance injectors & glow plugs in all 8 cyl
get the truck starts to die when I slow down to fast only obove 60 to 70mph
took the truck back they said they pintched an o-ring on the inj so they put all brand new ones again got the truck back and now it starts even harder with white smoke
only in the moorning 80 degrees outside. Was gettin more blowby than normal took it to the dealership they said the compression was to low that my rings were prob dusted.

Well did they give you the compression readings? What kind of performance injectors did you get and from where? Who is doing this work for you?

Yeha when I took mine in for issues, they gave me a work order showing compression on all cylinders (all above 400 psi IIRC ) so that would substaniate spending money for a compression check.

You can get cheaper engines than 2300. Actually i saw a block on Competitiondeisel.com that was only 650. might be worth looking into.

well they rote contribution test found cyl 3 & 8 had low compression
Determand the engine was dusted.
Engine replacement is suggested.
That is what the dealer wrote on the recipt and thats all?
As for the injector work it was Diesel Performance Unlimited that
could not give me an answer to the problems im having they want to put a HPOP
in next but it seam like they just want to keep throwing parts at it.
I am trying to troubleshoot the prob but cant figure it out.
Im going to do a compression check tomorrow hopfully and check my o-rings
on the injectors and hope for the best.

Thanks for welcoming to this site.
If anybody has any sugg to try I would be greatfull thanks.

Welcome to FTE. I think the best thing you can so is spend some time here reading posts on FTE so you bet a better feel for the 7.3. Then you can start asking enough questions before taking your truck to some of these idiots you're apparently dealing with.

First, you need to find out what makes them "performance" injectors. Depending on what they put in, you may need some custom programming on the PCM to make the engine run properly.

Next, the cylinder contribution test is a completely different animal than a compression test. If #3 & #8 failed a contribution test, I would just assume you had the recall done that replaces the CPS. When you check the blow by out the oil fill cap, is it just a lot of smoke, or can you see & feel the puffs? Some blowby smoke on the 7.3 is not unusual, if you can feel the pressure, or if it's enough to knock an upside down oil cap off the fill tube, then you might have a dusted engine.

How bad does the intake wheel look?

when I asked what performance injectors they put in they would not tell me
they just said they were performance injs.
For the blowby it will nock the cap off and
it dose blow puffs of smoke.
But what seams weird to me is the longer I let it sit like in the mornig
when I start it it will blow huge amount of whiteish blue smoke out the tailpipe.
Could it be injector o-rings? Maybe leaking oil on to the pistons from the pressured oil
lines? Would that cause the some of thees problems like blowby & loss of power.
As for cps I havent checked that yet.
