I think the whole "all xlt's came have them" is a myth. I did the same thing you did last night I went out and tried to get my door locks to do something but nothing ever happend. So I got fed up and went down to the local wrecking yard and found a 95 bronco and it had the box in it, clear as day. it even said keyless entry on it. So now my quesion is, does my truck have the wiring? I would love to put keyless entry in. Thanks
I've had 2 '95 XLT's and neither had remote keyless entry. Now the '95 I just bought I think does. It didn't come with any key fobs, but i noticed when I open the door the "theft" light flashes on the dash. The other's didn't do that. So I'm going to look for the box under there tonight and if it does, I'll get some fobs to program for it.
As for blue66stang's question, I believe that the wiring is already there and it's just simply plugging it in. The best bet would be to look closely at the bronco and what type of plug that module has. If you've got one under your psd dash that isn't plugged into anything, then there you go!
IIRC, remote keyless entry was a dealer installed option from Ford. It's a ford part but they were added at the dealers, not the factory.
I am kinda a skeptic if my truck has the wiring. I tried to reach around up in the dash to find the plugs but I cant find any. I found one, but it doesnt look like the one that is plugged in on the bronco. I wish I could find somebody that has put factory keyless entry in. I am not interested in aftermarket stuff. Generally I stay away from aftermarket stuff on anything, nothing is every as nice as factory.
Well I guess that settles it then, not all XLT's come with RKE. That's what I get for repeating what i heard here
I've had more than a couple factory RKE's go bad... mine isn't working now...If I decide to repair it,....it won't be the factory one.....I'll get one with remote start.
I am thinking that maybe the XLT's had the option of RKE, no biggie. I am going to the junkyard in the next week or so to look at some IDM's, while I am there I will look for a RKE box and study the way it's installed. I will reply back with a full report.
So is there any surefire way to know if a truck that wasn't delivered with RKE has the module or the wiring necessary? The 96 I'm buying doesn't have it (guy is the original owner) and I'm hoping I'll be lucky and be able to just buy a fob and program it...
I just checked mine for shist and grins and I don't have the RKE but I am fairly certain that I have the plugs for it. There are two plus that are factory capped off and buttoned up under the dash and they look similar to the ones in the diagram posted up. Might have to go to the scrap yard and see if I can't find one.
Chicagodragon I was wondering the same thing because I have the keyless entry box but it tried the key thing and nothing happened? Does this mean my Keyless entry box is no good or is there another way of finding out if it is good or bad? Don't know if it means anything but my Theft lite still flashes when ever the door is open and truck is not on.
So Chase you bringing back a thread from last year? Well I went into this same thing at one time. My truck is a one owner and it didn't have the RKE when I bought it in '97.
I was going to put it in. Well after much searching, I didn't have the right plugs under the dash. Someone on here, One of the big names, Told me that it would require a full harness. If it wasn't part of the original package then it isn't in the harness at all.
So I still do not have it and that is all because after 13 years I have grown kind of fond of my harness. I don't feel like I want the keyless entry so bad as to replace my wiring harness.
I was told by a ford parts guy 6 or 7 years ago that you can add it on at any time. The RKE was a dealer installed option from what I was told. I think they quoted me $450 or something for the factory ford RKE and install. Never did it at the time.
So theoretically you shouldn't need a new dash harness. That is if the Moscow, ID Ford parts guy was correct.
One of these days I'll get under my 95 w/o RKE and compare it to my other 95 with RKE to see if the electrical plugs are there or not.
