Hello all..I was hoping that this forum would help me explain or help me formulate the "right" words to explain to my wife why I do what I do as a routine. The one example that I am constantly on her when she drives my truck is this..our drive way is on an incline and when she parks my truck she invariably puts it in "p" park and leaves... I tell her that this puts an unnecessary load on the transmission gearing which is evident when I get in to drive away I have a hard time getting it into reverse. I tell her in my most convincing tone please do the following..1) stop the truck 2) put it in neutral with your foot on the brake 3) apply the parking brake 3) take your foot off of the brake and let the truck rest on the parking brake 4)now you can put the transmission in park. Am I making a big deal over nothing? I try to be meticulous in my driving habits, another thing that I do is at a stop light I will put the transmission in neutral while just sitting there.Am I over the line in my thinking? I told her that I would consult the guys and dolls on this forum and heed their advice. Thanks in advance. BTW I did read on this forum a signature which colors my situation beautifly, it said: "I love my wife to death, but my truck can't stand her" Can't remember whose sig it was but kudos to them....
I don't think she's doing it on purpose... just not thinking. Off the top of my head, is there something that is important to her that she likes done in a particular way that you've been doing the way she wants? If so, maybe stop for a while and see what her reaction is... could create a golden 'teaching opportunity'.
Another option is to ban her from driving the truck until she can play by the rules.
Maybe I'm not the best one to be giving advice!
Well BadDogPSD...I like the 'golden opportunity' approach but I gotta be careful with that... as for the banning, well if she pulls that card and bans me...well we all know what that means, right guys!!! a lot of lonely nights I might add.
As Will Rogers said, there are two theories on how to argue with a woman. Neither one works.
I understand you wanting to have the brakes set in a fashion to reduce stress on the tranny, but as Aklim said, that little parking pawl has turned out to be much more indestructible than I ever thought.

You drive like I do.

It really doesn't hurt anything as far as what she's doing. But we all have quirks and you want it how you want it. The thing is you can't convince a woman of anything she doesn't want to be convinced about, especially concerning a vehicle. They only see it as an apparatus to move them from point to point and could care less.
I tried for a long time to convince mine I needed to get a JWVB in hopes of preventing problems later on and prolonging the transmission life. You know, pay a little bit now to save a lot later. Try as I might, it didn't happen. I just did it anyway........
Ehh...I gotta agree with the guys. I wouldn't try the "teaching opportunity" approach. It's never a good idea to try to bribe a woman, in any way. She'll get angry, and get even. No man needs that.
Just explain to her how important it is to you, and even go so far as to tell her a small white lie. Explain to her how much a new transmission costs, and that the increased stress could eventually cost you $3,000 for a new BTS.

After she parks it, come in grinning, and thank her. Don't explain, just thank her. She'll die wanting to know why. Then tell her (with some excitement if your voice) that since she won't help you make the tranny last, you'll need to get a new one sooner than planned, and the BTS is just such an awesome friggin' tranny, you're done with fighting her on it. "So please, drive it whenever you want"... with a big grin.
I'm sure the ladies will chime in that that won't work, for various reasons.
It's your truck. If she won't do certain things how you like to keep the truck running better for longer, don't let her drive it. The more I see stories like this, the more I'm convinced I'll never get married
