302 wiring problems coil over heating
The basic problem i think is the wiring is messed up some how. The coil gets really hott on my dura spark 2 igntion set up. I cooked the oil out of my old coil so i got a new one put in a 1.79 ballast resistor in the wire to the + side of the coil and it still got hott and so did the wires around it including the 3 wires going into the distributor they got very hott.
I homemade the wiring for the coil and for the alternator because i didnt get harnesses when i did the 302 swap into my 86 B2. I am thinking somewhere i messed up and maybe the alternator is throwing a full 12-14v into the coil and igntion system. I read somewhere there is supossed to be a resistor wire infront of the alternator (mine doesnt because i didnt know)
So is there anyway I need to add one? The only other thing is when i did my duraspark two harness i didnt do a crank bypass. I found a wire that became hott when the key is in the on position and ran it to the + side of the coil.( this wire now has the ballast resistor) and it still seems to be flowing too much into the coil.
hopefully thats enough please throw me everything you got I am trying to get this licked within the next 36hours thanks guys!!
