what battery do you suggest to use in my gasser sd . i dont used my high wattage audio / video system with the engine not running. optima, interstate and deka batteries
I had an Optima red top in my F-150 for 6 years and it was a champ. Sealed and no leakage (I off-road a lot). It still had the Optima in it when I sold it.
its going tobe either the interstate mega-tron or the motorcraft. the interstate is about $10 more pretty much the same battery they are both made by johnson controls. plus the motorcraft has a longer free replacement warranty. is it better to hook up another 12volt source to retain the memory of everything? or just let if clear itself? the reason is the stereo system it will take me awhile to get everything set again!
While I agree with your mind set, you owe it to your self to check out
The "Legend" by NAPA part #7565
This has got to be the best battery on the market, It is what I use ineverything when its time to replace, and in my mustang, 2 will run her all day at the track no problem.

OK, I am a cheapskate by nature and real close to a Wally Mart. So I bought two of their best 65 series batteries for my '05 6.0 at $75 each. And the tag on them reports mfg'd by Johnson Controls and sold by Wall Mart. Specs are 850a / 700ccr and two year replacement. The orig Motor Crafts were 750a each and one is still serviceable so it will go in my Chaparral race car trailer...
The walmart batteries, mass produced by Johnson control, to my knowledge does not have the reserve capacity needed to be reliable in a turbo diesel engine. It may work, under ideal conditions, but the lead plates used are far to thin for any type of longevity and cold weather starting. Good luck. They arent that much cheaper either.

Well ole cheapskate here is obviously not a battery expert, and is a bottom feeder at best. But here in So Calif we 'might' get two mornings a year with frost on the windshield so I don't worry to much about 'cold weather starting.' Also the 700cca rating is only marginally less that the 750amp Motorcraft high rating. The Motorcraft battery does not show the cca (cold cranking amp) rating, and neither show how long the cca rating is for time wise, i.e. reserve capacity... "IF" I remember correctly, (my memory is like every thing else I have, SHORT!) the op manual for the 6.0 recommends not spinning the starter for more than 30 seconds at a time, then a 30 second cool down period. BTW, the Wally's spin the 6.0 faster than the Motorcrafts ever did, and that is a fact. Since new in '05 I have always wondered why the 6.0 did not spin fast. Now it does thanks to the 850amp / 700cca rating.
Oh well, ole cheapskate has had good luck and or service with Wally and or Sam's batteries in my long gone old '85 diesel, and my '88 diesel which is still in service along side my '05 6.0...
So whatever works for me, just might not work for others. Just relating my past experiences, not suppositions, Si???
Hmmm. I have been thinking about the load on my battery the last couple of weeks and wondering if I will need to get a stronger battery. I got a viar compressor, a decent audio system, and I want to add 4 fog lights. I would like to run my stero a little while before cuttin the car on to recharge. How do I know what kinda battery to upgrade to?

If your ride has dual batteries, replace with same group size and the highest amp rating available of your choice...
If your ride has a single battery, add another in a nearby location. Wire it up parallel i.e. negative to negative/positive to positive for twice the capacity at the same voltage...
I started using a DieHard Platinum last winter for plowing and I've been very impressed. Works just as well as my buddy's dual battery setup. Great warranty and maintenance free. Expensive, but not if you're considering Optimas or dual battery setups. Just my $0.02
