Did ball joints the other day as most of you remember. well was taking it for test run. mind you i live in nowhere land. 1 lane dirt road. as i get to the hard road (paved) traffic is everywhere! long story short was car accident with 2 dead (prayer!). while sitting in traffic on the road i think to myself hey flip the 4X4 switch. so i do, takes a few moments for the light on the dash to appear when it does the ac goes from panel to defroster.
long story short why did the ac go from dash panel to defrost when 4x4 turned on? vacuum leak? at the hubs i would presume?
there's a vacuum line there near the hub that works the auto 4 x 4. must have came loose. my EX did the same thing but my auto hubs were shot. i bought warn manuals ($194.00 for the pair) mainly due to the price of the ford auto hubs ($ 350.00 each)
he is correct, that is the classic symptom of a vacuum leak at or around the hubs... I got 2 new complete bearing/hub assemblies new off ebay for about $254.30 for the set inc shipping and they are identical (probably made by same manufacturer) as the oem hub.
the seller is am-autoparts very happy with the products and service. arrived ahead of schedule too you will need the yellow o rings from Ford for the bearing assemblies and a hub rebuild kit for the shift on the fly hubs
