i hope some one can help i have a 96 explorer and my ac does not work when i turn it on with the gauge on it the pressure will rise to un safley high and the compresser will click and the pressure will drop and this just keeps happing it rises fast its not slow but i was hoping some one could tell me if the system is over charged or is the compresser bad any help is greatly appricated this heat is killing me
with the motor off you should have abou t80 psi on both sides, hi and low. if you do, then you have about the right amount of gas. when running the low side is about 40 spi and high side is 200-250 psi in a 90 degree ambient air. if the pressure is 350-400 range, then you might have a plugged expansion tube or very dirty system causing restriction. dont see how the pump would be bad and put out too much pressure. is there air in the system? was a vacuum pulled before you added more gas?
You really need to have the low and high pressure readings, and monitor what each of them do with relationship to the other, to determine what the likely issue is.
Have you tried adding R-134a to the system? What was the before and after result?
i did not add anything i just put the gauge on the hight pressure side and it was going up and down as i explanided above would u guys recommdend emptying and refilling the system idk i am the seconded owner and had the car about a year and a half and its been like this since i got the car anything u guys recommdend i will give a try i apricate any help
anything u guys recommdend i will give a try i apricate any help
Anything? Cool, how about using punctuation in your posts?
Rising and falling of the high pressure side can indicate a few different things, but to point you in the right direction, you need to know what the low pressure side is doing at the same time as well.
You could try a bunch of different things, but by the time you are done, you would probably have more invested than if you had a professional diagnose it with the proper tools.
get the pressure readings when clutch is engaged, and at what point it kicks out and we will tell you what is wrong. need high and low pressures at the same time.
