Dana 60 Swap

Hello,
I have an 86 F250 4x4 6.9l with the stock front end and was wondering if any of you experts know what year Dana 60 front ends will work on the front of my truck. I believe it is a pretty straight forward swap. Are there any pos. or neg. to certain year Ford Dana 60's. I want to know so I can start keeping my eyes open for one. Thanks Brad

Any '86-(some say there were '85s with 60s also)'97 will work.
The '86-'91s had the more robust king-pins instead of ball-joints but both styles are good.
I would look for a complete truck to swap the frontend out of, there are a few other parts: tie rod ends etc. you will wish you had got with the axle if you only get the 60.
If you're real ambitious and a frugal buyer you might be able to put your TTB in the dodnor truck and resell it for what you paid for it. Presto! Free Dana 60.
Obviously you want one with the same gear ratio unless you want to swap the rearend too, or re-gear it which isn't cheap.

Yes, I'm pretty frugal so I'm sure I'll find or work some kind of deal such as you mentioned above. Thanks

I did the king-pin D60 swap about a year and a half ago... best mod I've done to my truck. Try to get the springs with it as well...

The TTBs can be Dana 50s or 44s. They are not interchangeable with each other and neither is interchangeable with the monobeam Dana 60.
They get progressively bigger from the 44 to 60.

The Dana 50 straight axle was introduced in the '99 SuperDuty and the gears are smaller than the Dana 60.

I'm pretty sure SuperDuty 50 gears are interchangeable with TTB 50s.
