2 fridays ago, the plastic on top of my Fuel pump assembly broke, shooting all my gas out and obviously causing me to break down.
Towed to my house. Removed bed of truck. Ordered Fuel Pump Assy.. replaced. Still did not crank. Turned over just fine, just would not crank.. would turn over all day long but would not fire. Changed Spark Plugs & Fuel Filter just for the heck of it (needed it anyway and it was cheap)
Check fuel pressure = 60psi @ Schroeder valve
changed spark plugs, they are firing, grounded them and watched it spark fine..
Used noid light, engine is providing ground & 12v for injectors
Truck will crank up when using ether, but will immediately die once the you stop spraying the ether.
checked inertia switch, reset.. still same issues..
now the good part.
the new fuel pump assymbly i installed, is leaking around the connectors (green & red i think, which is out & return i think).. i turn the key on.. and it starts leaking out of the connectors.. (wasn't doing that yesterday??)
went to ford dealership ((oh, the pump is a ford part, not aftermarket), got a new connector.. put it on.. same result..
??
I'm waiting on a new fuel pump.. but it seems it's working fine if I have 60psi @ the schroeder valve..
any ideas on what I can do to further diagnose this?
my thought on that is: all 6? and they worked fine only days before the fuel pump broke. ?? doesn't make much sense does it.. i'm pulling my hair out..
Dont worry dude, one of the ford genius guys will come along and tell you whats wrong. Maybe some kid poured some water in your gas tank while you had the fuel pump out.
If it starts with ether than it's a fuel problem. That leak you describe might be affecting the fuel pressure. Is the 60psi fuel pressure maintained while the engine is cranking?
I tested fuel pressure while cranking.. it's 65psi
Also, i removed the fuel rail and stuck the injectors in whilc leaving them out of the cylinders but pressing them onto the block allowing me to see if they spray any fuel out without shooting them across my driveway at 90 miles per hour... and low adn behold.. none of the 3 i tested sprayed any fuel..
question is.. will they spray fuel without compression? just wondering if theres some kind of compression sensor in the fuel injectors... it seems unlikely for 6 to go bad at the same time..
anyway
any advice would be appreciated
Well.. got injectors off of a Fod Taurus... not the right part for the long run, but good enough to test as it has the same connectors..
hooked 2 up to the passenger side Fuel rail, and turned the engine over.. sprayed like a champ.. stuck them into the cylinders and it was firing on those 2 cyl's... so.. problem solved.. all 6 injectors have gone bad at the same time....
may be clogged really bad.. but i dont have a way to test or fix.. so I bought some for $209 total for the set & overnight shipping.. I cleaned the tips the best I could, but no luck.. so.. I'll have them tomorrow @ 1:30...
