Interchangeable radiator
I recently picked up a little 83 ranger - 4 cyl, 4x4. It has a rebuilt engine and runs like a champ, but it does need a new radiator. It was heating up so I pulled the thermostat and drove it for a week and it still heats up. I can see that many of the fins on the grill are corroded and falling out. My question is, can I avoid spending the $140 on a new radiator by simply pulling the old one and trying to find one close to the same size at a salvage yard? I've searched and cannot find an exact replacement, but I'm moving to Texas and would actually like to drop in something larger for better cooling capacity. What can I use? How interchangeable are radiators?

Just about any Ranger, Bronco II or Explorer radiator from '83 thru '94, any engine should fit. The radiator support is the same on all of them. They are all the same height and vary slightly in width and depth, depending on the number or rows in them. Your coolant capacity will vary among them. The major problem you may run in to is how the hoses from the engine to the radiator hook up.
