No laughing please.
I just changed my the oil in my 2001 ranger 4x4 xlt. What i would like to know is what should get the grease and where the fittings are....can you tell im a rookie!
Nothing needs to be greased. If all parts are OEM then they are sealed. If you had repair done on suspension then some items may have been replaced with parts with grease zerks and they will need to be greased.
Like the other fellow said, most of the steering gear is permanently lubed and sealed. But there are many other places that will need greasing from time to time. See your owners manual for best guidence.
Typically you will need a nice thick all purpose grease for things like parking brake cables if they slide against the chassis, also for general lubing. Also some silicone grease for things like door weather seal and general lubing. White Lihium spray grease for things like door hinges and hood latch and pivots. Spray graphite for door locks. Even dielectric grease for spark plug wires, you will thank me the next time you need to pull plugs. Antisieze for things like manifold bolts and spark plugs, O2 sensors etc.
Things that might need general lubing are any hinges, pivots, cables, throttle body pivots. Throttle and cruise control cables etc.
The manual will usually have a schedule for these minor lube jobs. Almost all the lubricants required are called out in the specifications section of the manual.
