Can't read timing!!

I am trying to check the timing on my 460 in my 1996 F350 and I cannot read the marks while it is running. I cleaned the marks and still all I see is a blur. Are there any tips to make it easier to read the timing while it's running? Also, what should the stock timing be at on this year 460?

Either get a paint marker or just rub some chalk into the timing marks on the damper.

If it's rusty I'd turn the crank untill the timing marks are visible from the bottom, and then use a wire wheel on a drill to clean the rust off. I'd use a paint marker at the same time to make it easier to read. I grabbed a chrome/silver paint marker from JoAnn fabrics, and it's VERY visible.

I'm not sure on a '96.
10* is a safe bet. Remove the 'spout' plug on the later models.

8* BTDC @ 800rpm with the vacuum disconnected on mine.

Look for your emissions calibration sticker under the hood, on the radiator support or on the valve cover.
