Question for you guys...this is actually pertaining to something on my bike, but it's something I'd like to know anyway.
I bought a sissy bar for my bike which is all chromed. My bike is blacked out, so I'd like to paint the chromed parts of the sissy bar gloss black. What's the best way to do this? I plan to use a good lacquer and then clear lacquer on top, as enamel never holds up like I'd like it to.
BTW it was a cheap sissy bar, I got it for $64, so I don't care about painting over the chrome.
A guy I know, that has built a few bikes and runs a machine shop, told me he has painted over chrome before. I thought he said he scuffed it a bit, primed it, and then painted it like normal, but I figured it couldn't be that easy.
You don't need to remove the chrome , a blaster is easiest ..It needs to be roughed up enough to allow the paint to adhere.. 180 grit paper might do it , then prime & paint as usual
They just did a how to on Power Block Muscle Car on Spike TV. The show will be on again Sunday (Tomorrow). Or you can find it on their web site www.powerblocktv.com/musclecar. They scuffed it with Scotchbrite rd scuffing pads, then used some etching chemical from House of Color, then a lite coat of a primer then another coat of primer. Then painted black and 2 coats of clear. You'll have to watch the show or go to the website to find all the details.

I was just gonna post that as well. The rims he did turned out great. Plus he said he did his F150 bumper 4 years ago and it looked great as well.
