Okay, so here's the update. Cleaned the EGR valve nice and pretty. Symptoms went away for a day or two but quickly came back. Again, surging going uphill(or with a load) at 12-15 psi boost and 2000 rpm, not to mention big puffs of black smoke. Pushed it up a hill yesterday from a standstill and CEL came on. I just received my sct X3 and pulled a P0404 dtc, but no others. Could this simply be my EGR gone bad(not just needing to be cleaned)?(going to be doing a complete delete in the next month or so.)
I am going to clear dtc and see if symptoms occur after being tuned with EGR tuned out. Any thoughts?
Do NOT spray carb cleaner in the intake then vacume with a shopvac. The vapors are explosive. Please do not ask how I know this
did you lose an eyebrow? LMAO!
brings back memories.when were were manually adjusting the timing on a 350 small block, and we flooded it so a buddy was holding open the carbeurator and flames shot out when we tried to start it ,man was that funny.

That is funny- have done the same on a 1972 F250 trying to get a 390 going. Only it was me under the hood. If it hadn't been for the beer we had been drinking, I would have been hurting a little!
Just as an update for those with surging problems. After 2 cleanings of the EGR, symptoms would go away for a day or two. Tried disconnecting after the first try and didn't help- so I thought my EGR was okay. Disconnected the IPC snesor- no change. Tore the turbo out and cleaned it. (Let me tell you, this is a decent amount of work and probably not for the faint of heart. Luckily I had both the time, shop and tools. Probably should only take about 4-6 hours IF you know your way around the engine). Symptoms were much lighter but still there. Much less surging, but still getting black smoke. Out of desperation, I disconnected the EGR- Problem solved.
It appears as if this might have been a two problem deal, EGR going south and turbo vanes sticking at the same time. Turbo might not have been contributing much, but doesn't hurt to have clean vanes and unison ring- they were heavily coked up btw. Will try to add photos if I get the time.
Can't wait to get a delete kit in- definitely don't want to be doing this on a regular basis.

thanks for the update. chaulk this one up to in favor of egr system delete.
i'm on the fence with the delete, only because > $500 is just a little too much if it was closer to 300 i would buy it immediately but the liberator kit looks like the best way to go IMHO!

lovntexas, my bro was having the same issue would surge going up hill and puffs of black smoke turns out got a tip from another member to unplug the ICP and see if it does it and as soon as we did the symptoms went away so the new ICP si on the way
Just wanted to let everyone know this ended up being a bad egr valve. I had cleaned it twice and thought it was working properly. Pulled the turbo and cleaned it(a decent job for the novice). Tried unplugging the ICP, same problem. Unplugged the EGR. . . bingo, problem solved. New EGR and cleaned the EBP sensor and tube and runs like a champ. Could have saved a lot of trouble by just unplugging the EGR!!
btw, for anyone considering pulling the turbo- use pb blaster on all potentially stubborn bolts as soon as you open the hood!!
