"Cheap Oil" test......worth $20 ???? (my money)
OK, here I go again.....
You guys want to help me spend $20 ????
We pick the oil - the cheapest (quality) we can all agree on and I'll spring to send a clean sample in for testing. Then we can see what is in the additive package.
Would it be worth it - or just a waste of money.
What do you guys think ????

"Cheap Oil" test......worth $20 ???? (my money)
Brian, great idea.
But would it only tell half of the story?
Wouldn't it be even better if someone on the forum would be willing to run it in their truck for at least 3,000 miles and send that in for testing too?
I would consider doing it, but my truck is not my daily driver. It would take all year to get enough miles to make it worthwhile. My daily driver is a Honda. If we are going to spend our time and resources on this, it has got to be a Ford truck!
Perhaps a guinea pig...'er umm, I mean Product Efficiency Tester or *PET* would volunteer to step forward?
I vote for SuperTech, since that seems to be available nationwide. I would be willing to pitch in and pay for testing.

Sure Brian, why not? Advancing the understanding of motor oil and how its made is certainly not a waste of money in my book.I vote for using that "Genuine" brand at Walmart for 74 cents a quart,it sounds like an excellent example of "cheap oil." I saw it just the other night, they had 30wt.non-detergent and 10W40.

"Cheap Oil" test......worth $20 ???? (my money)
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Jan-03 AT 09:51 AM (EST)]I was actually getting ready to do this. I was going to buy walmarts syn blend (not the full syn) and quacker state blend and send them in for testing. I was also going to run both oils in my piece of junk 2000 ranger and have the oil tested again at 5000 miles....
Instead of the quacker state I might go with the Vavaline Durablend.
5w-30 only

"Cheap Oil" test......worth $20 ???? (my money)
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Jan-03 AT 11:57 AM (EST)]To give the test relevance I would say go with a detergent rather than a non-detergant oil. I also like the idea of running the oil for at least 2000 miles to test it (but not in my car )
