how hard should the vacuum pump be to turn? I am getting some belt squeal and I am not sure if it is the belt tensioner or the vacume pump. I tried to turn it by hand and it seems very stiff.
shouldnt be that hard to turn, if it is real hard to turn it may be ready to lock up for good. 100 ish bucks and you can get a new one or junk yard it for the hopes of finding a good used one.
Do you have v belts or serp setup? If the pump is hard to turn it is about ready to lock up and if you have the serp setup it will destroy the belt in the process. These pumps are oil filled from the factory and can leak from the seal this causes them to sieze.
Sounds like its done. Along with many other things, started the truck today with a huge cloud off white smoke and and found oil in the rad. Still seems to run fine, could it be something simple like a head gasket???

oil in the radiator or anything similar is scary with these and their cavitation issues. might want to have her looked at if you are uncomfortable with pulling it all apart.
